Why Blog?

The sad fact is, it’s becoming harder and harder to remember some of the trips I did long ago. I’ve been fortunate enough to visit some great places and do some really cool things, and only hope to do more and more. I created this blog not only for my own memories, but because it’s easier to share these adventures with everyone else.

Photography

It started with a very bad digital camera and a basic understanding that there is more to taking a picture than putting someone’s head in the center and pushing a button. What drove me deeper into photography was the fact thatI can’t just use the basic features of anything I own. Whether it’s boredom or an addiction to knowledge, I always am learning as much as I can about my toys and hobbies. I’m pretty much 90% technical knowledge and 10% artistic ability.

I went from a bad digital camera, to a better point & shoot, to a Canon Rebel XSi DSLR which is my current toy. The XSi is an entry level DSLR but I’ve been really pleased with it and decided I would rather spend money on better lenses than a better body.

It’s all a hobby for me, one that happens to go well with the things I enjoy such as the outdoors and traveling. However, any time someone asks to publish my work I definitely get excited. Most of the time they’re little pamphlets offering no compensation, but I did score once with a Budget Travel article on the Te Araroa Trail in New Zealand:
